[Erbium Fraxel] For rough skin texture and pitted scars

[Erbium Fraxel] For rough skin texture and pitted scars

Erbium Fraxel is a laser treatment that refines the old layers of the skin's surface, creates microscopic treatment zones in parts of the epidermis and dermis, and helps the skin's self-regeneration process. This process creates an environment where new skin can regenerate, and can be used to improve overall skin concerns such as acne scars, enlarged pores, and rough skin texture. *VAT separate

How Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic Utilizes Er:YAG Fractional Laser

We use Er:YAG laser instead of CO2 laser:

CO2 lasers penetrate deep into the skin, but they can cause relatively strong thermal damage and may carry a risk of hyperpigmentation.

Er:YAG laser is a fractional laser device that can precisely deliver energy from the epidermis to the dermal-epidermal junction while reducing such thermal damage.

Personalized parameter adjustments are made:

Instead of a uniform procedure, the depth and intensity of the treatment are delicately adjusted, considering each individual's skin condition.

The burden of the procedure is reduced through precise adjustments, such as performing multiple overlapping treatments with low output on thin skin, and applying a single high-output method to thicker skin.

We utilize an overlap technique:

The laser is applied multiple times to areas requiring improvement, such as fine lines, scars, and pores, to precisely adjust the treatment intensity.

It can also be applied to areas prone to fine lines, such as the back of the hands or the neck. Even for areas typically difficult to treat, the procedure is carried out with separate settings, carefully considering the skin's regeneration rate and sebaceous gland density.

Skin booster delivery technique can enhance the efficiency of fractional laser:

Immediately after fractional laser treatment, microscopic channels open in the skin.

At Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic, we apply a protocol of topical skin booster application at this time to help deliver necessary ingredients to the dermal layer.

By adjusting the degree of overlap and intensity, considering the characteristics of deep scar areas or areas with different skin thickness, we effectively secure pathways down to the dermal-epidermal junction.

When combining with small-particle skin booster treatments like PDRN or Juvelook, ingredients can be absorbed through these channels into the dermis, which is crucial for regeneration. This is expected to create a synergistic effect in improving pores, fine lines, and acne scars.

What is Fractional Laser?

Fractional laser is an abbreviation of 'fractional,' referring to a treatment that applies laser partially with microscopic spacing, rather than stimulating the entire skin surface.

It creates tiny holes in the skin to stimulate it, and this process induces the skin's natural regenerative response.

This method of inducing localized skin damage offers the advantage of reducing recovery burden while expecting overall skin condition improvement.

Ablative vs. Non-Ablative Fractional Lasers

Ablative Fractional Laser: This method precisely removes the epidermis and delivers energy to the dermal-epidermal junction to directly improve skin texture, wrinkles, and pigmentation. The effects are relatively clear, but a recovery period may be needed.

Non-Ablative Fractional Laser: This method preserves the epidermis while applying thermal stimulation to the dermis. Recovery is fast, but the effects may be relatively limited.

Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic uses Er:YAG fractional laser, which is an ablative fractional laser.

How Er:YAG Fractional Laser Works

Er:YAG fractional laser is an ablative laser treatment that utilizes a 2940nm wavelength, which is highly absorbed by water.

This wavelength precisely vaporizes and removes tissue from the epidermis to the dermal-epidermal junction, allowing for accurate depth control, reduced thermal damage, and relatively faster recovery.

By removing tissue through water absorption without causing unnecessary thermal damage to surrounding tissues, it reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation, thereby ensuring a stable procedure.

Comparison of DOE and MLA Methods

Fractional laser energy delivery methods are broadly divided into DOE and MLA methods. The DOE (Diffractive Optical Element) method evenly distributes laser energy to all points, which can reduce the burden on the skin. However, output may be limited to a certain level, so the practitioner's skill is crucial for scar treatment.

In contrast, the MLA (Microlens Array) method strongly concentrates energy in the center and weakens it towards the periphery. While suitable for treating deep scars, excessive energy concentration in a specific area may potentially lead to a longer recovery time.

Expected Effects of Er:YAG Fractional Laser

Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic's Er:YAG fractional laser utilizes the DOE method,

ensuring stable treatment through even energy delivery across the entire skin.

This method can positively impact the improvement of pores, fine lines, and skin texture, and can also aid in improving acne scars by utilizing the overlap technique.

Collagen and Elastin Regeneration: It contributes to regenerating skin thickness and firmness by removing damaged skin areas and stimulating fibroblasts in the dermal layer. This can make the skin feel smoother and more elastic.

Pore Reduction: The fibrous tissue around pores is reorganized, leading to pore contraction and a refined skin surface.

Acne Scar Improvement: Existing scar tissue is gradually broken down and replaced with new collagen tissue, which can improve skin texture.

Serdar ZA et al. Dermatol Ther. 2019:       Study on 333 patients with facial and neck wrinkles

얼굴 및 목 주름 환자 333명 대상 연구

Results have shown that individuals who receive 3-4 sessions of Er:YAG Fraxel treatment can expect improvement in skin texture, wrinkles, and pigmentation.

Robati RM et al., J Cosmet Dermatol. Paper published in 2020:

This treatment is suitable for those seeking to improve facial pores or fine wrinkles.

This suggests that fine wrinkles can be improved even with a single treatment.

Through 3 or more sessions, it can help with pore contraction along with long-term maintenance effects.

A Sincere Message from the Chief Director

Every day, as I examine various skin types, I observe that even for the same individual, skin conditions can vary each time.

The core of Fraxel treatment is to delicately adjust the laser output and depth in 0.1 increments to match each individual's skin condition on the day of treatment.

With this mindset, our medical team strives daily to provide precise and safe treatments.

The results of Fraxel treatment can vary depending on the delicate skill level of the practitioner, as much as on the equipment itself.

We will do our best to provide satisfying results to those who trust us and visit our clinic.

Post-Treatment Precautions

  • On the day of the treatment, please refrain from washing your face and applying makeup; light cleansing is recommended starting the next day.

  • Tip marks, redness, and slight pain may persist for up to 7 days in the treated area, and cooling care using ice packs can be helpful during this time.

  • Fraxel is a type of laser resurfacing; it is best not to artificially remove the dead skin cells that appear from the 3rd to 4th day after treatment, but rather to let them shed naturally.

  • Until all dead skin cells have naturally shed, please refrain from alcohol, smoking, and visits to saunas, public baths, and swimming pools.

  • The period from immediately after treatment until about 1-2 weeks after exfoliation is a time of active skin regeneration, so consistent application of a regenerating ointment is recommended.

  • Pay special attention to moisturizing care for skin soothing, and it is important to meticulously apply sunscreen when going outdoors.

Q&A

Q&A

고객님들이 가장 많이 물어보시는 내용을 모았습니다.

Is Fraxel treatment very painful?

QnA

We apply anesthetic cream before the procedure to minimize discomfort. During the procedure, there may be a stinging sensation, and after the procedure, your skin may feel hot for one to two days.

When do scabs form/How long does peeling take?

QnA

After the procedure, fine scabs typically begin to form after 3-4 days, and skin peeling starts around one week. The scabs usually fall off naturally over 1-2 weeks, and recovery speed varies by individual. Temporary redness may be observed in the treated area, which generally improves gradually within 1-2 weeks.

How long does the redness last?

QnA

In most cases, post-procedure redness typically subsides gradually within 1 to 2 weeks. However, the recovery period may vary depending on several individual factors such as skin sensitivity, dryness, or regenerative capacity, and in some cases, redness may persist a little longer.

Can I wash my face and apply makeup after the procedure?
